This was actually my wedding which took place in September 2015. A wedding made even more special by my wonderful friends singing me into the Abbey to meet my husband to be, to the most beautiful song [in my opinion], The Rose originally written by Amanda McBroom and made famous by Bette Midler who recorded it for the soundtrack of The Rose. My name is Katie, and I have sang with Vale Connection since 2014. I asked the choir to sing for me as the ultimate start to my (ahem, sorry...OUR) wedding! I also proposed a bit of a weird suggestion to them: to blend into the congregation when singing (rather than sing in the choir stalls), a la Love Actually, and to make it a surprise for the guests. Amanda, the Musical Director had to stand on the other side of the pews to be seen by the chorus. The choir also sang a number of beautiful songs during the signing of the register to keep the guests entertained, including That's What Friends Are For, and Hallelujah - all of these songs now bring me to tears whenever I hear them. So many people commented on how beautifully the ladies sang; especially given the dramatic outline of Pershore Abbey. I'm so proud of the ladies, and so grateful to have them as my friends. The video below was taken by one of my friends... please forgive the quality. A video can never show the sound quality that these ladies bring to any event, but will give you an idea of their style. (I am in tears as I listen [and sing along] to them at this very moment!) |
